ANU Indonesia Institute Post Graduate Workshop- Call for Papers

Venue

Online

Date

Monday, 13 September, 2021 (All day) to Tuesday, 14 September, 2021 (All day)

We invite ANU postgraduate students to submit an abstract for their proposed paper and/or register to attend by 23 August, 2021

The ANU Indonesia Institute Postgraduate Workshop is hosting an interdisciplinary workshop for students conducting Indonesia-related research at the postgraduate and honours level.

All postgraduate and honours students enrolled at ANU who are conducting research on Indonesia are encouraged to attend. The workshop will provide a unique opportunity for students to share research in a supportive environment, to learn about Indonesia-related research being conducted by other students, and to meet and network with students with similar interests from across the campus.

We will endeavour to accommodate students unable to attend events on campus to the best of our ability, based on registrations, and of course we may need to move to an online format if COVID-19 restrictions require this.

The focus of this two-day event will be presentations by students. Students who wish to conduct presentations are invited to submit a 200-word abstract outlining the themes and content of their paper. The presentation may take the form of a general overview of a student’s thesis, or research plan, may be devoted to a single thesis chapter, or may focus on a distinct conference paper or draft article. It is expected that student presentations will reflect work in progress rather than polished pieces of scholarship. Presenters will be organised into panels focusing on particular disciplinary areas or themes. Each presentation will be 15 minutes, with time set aside for questions, answers and discussion at the conclusion of each panel. Students who do not wish to present a paper are also encouraged to attend. Registration for the ANU Indonesia Institute Postgraduate Workshop is free of charge.

The ANU hosts many of the world’s leading experts in fields relating to Indonesian studies, and several staff members who are Indonesia specialists will also be in attendance during the workshop. As part of this event, staff members will deliver presentations on the following topics: “Future directions of Indonesian studies”, “Making a Career in Indonesian Studies”, “Conducting Research on Indonesia”.

Workshop participants will also have the opportunity to attend the ANU Indonesia Update, to be held on 15-17 September. The topic of the 2021 Indonesia Update is “In sickness and in health: diagnosing Indonesia”. Please register separately for the Update.
