Politics played a much more important role in national affairs in the wake of two big mass demonstrations in the last two months of 2016 over the blasphemy case brought against the Jakarta Governor. Politics can be expected to take up more of the President’s attention in coming months in response to public criticism, such as responding to wild rumours about Chinese economic expansion that have gone viral in social and print media.
